ADMISSIONS
PROCESS
7th
Graders
Interested in taking a look at Mary Help before your 8th
grade year? Here's a nice way to do it:
- Be
sure to attend an Open House, usually scheduled in September
and October.
- In
the Spring watch for announcements on our website or through
your elementary school (if non-public) regarding our Sneak
Peek program for 7th graders. Spend a day with approximately
60 other 7th graders and tour the school, have some special
classes and get to ask questions of students during lunchtime.
This is a good springboard to begin looking at high schools
you're interested in.
- Stay
in touch with the Admissions Director to keep updated
on all upcoming events.
8th
Graders
Interested 8th graders should follow the following process:
Overview
- September:
Register for the COOP (the entrance exam for Catholic
high schools). Catholic school students are automatically
registered by their schools and take the exam at their
schools. Public school students are to register online
at www.coopexam.org. Should this be impossible for some
reason, contact the Director of Admissions for further
instructions. To be considered for an Academic Merit Scholarship, Mary Help must be a 1st choice in the COOP.
- September
and October: Come to an Open House if at all possible.
- October
through December: Shadow -- spend a day with a freshman
at the Academy. Try to do this BEFORE the COOP exam, which
is usually on the first Friday of November. Contact the
Director of Admissions to confirm a date. Then download
the Shadow Form
from our website and fax the completed form to the Admissions
Office. We must have the form in hand BEFORE you come
to shadow.
- September
through December: Download the application
form from our website. Only public school students
need to print the final page (Release of Records) and
bring it to the Guidance Office at their school for completion.
Complete Application pages 2, 3, and 4, and write the
required essay. Mail your application and essay to the
Director of Admissions. The deadline for regular admissions
is December 20.
- October
through December: When your application has been received,
the Director of Admissions will contact you to schedule
an interview for you and your parent(s). Interviews are
scheduled after school hours according to what is convenient,
and usually takes approximately 30 minutes. The interview
is vital to our admissions process. Anyone not interviewed
before letters of acceptance are mailed will be required
to have an interview before they may register.
Transferring
Students
Students interested in transferring to the Academy should
contact the Director of Admissions for specific information
on the Application, the Release of Records, interview, etc.
