GUIDANCE
The
Guidance Department at Mary Help of Christians Academy is
staffed by four counselors: two academic counselors, a personal
counselor and a counselor who coordinates the educational
program for special needs students and the peer tutoring
program. Students in grades 9-11 are seen at least twice
by their academic counselor during each school year. Additional
appointments may be scheduled at the request of the student
or parent, or at a teacher's recommendation. Toward the
end of the school year, students ingrades 9-11 are seen
to discuss their course selections for the coming year.
The
seniors are scheduled individually for college guidance.
They also meet once, together with their parents, with the
academic counselor. Follow up visits are scheduled for each
senior to determine her progress throughout the application
/ acceptance time period.
Under
the auspices of the Guidance Department, freshmen are acclimated
to the high school environment, sophomores are introduced
to explore a variety of careers, and juniors and seniors
are provided ongoing enrichment in financial matters, scholarship
awareness and college/career preparation.
