Presidential Volunteer Service Award

Presidential recognition is a tremendous honor. Even though you may not seek recognition for the service that you do, your example can deliver a powerful message that encourages others to embrace a lifestyle of service. Mary Help of Christians Academy is a certifying partner of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) that recognizes students who have achieved the required number of hours of service over a 12-month time period or cumulative hours over the course of a lifetime.

There are four levels of the President’s Volunteer Service Award:
  • Bronze Level
  • Silver Level
  • Gold Level
  • President’s Call to Service Award (Lifetime)
Mary Help of Christians Academy awards students the PVSA at the following levels:

Teens Ages 11-15
(Freshmen)
Young Adults Ages 16-25
(Sophomores-Seniors)
Bronze 50-74 hours 100-174 hours
Silver 75-99 hours 174-240 hours
Gold 100 hours 250+ hours
Lifetime 4,000 lifetime hours 4,000 lifetime hours
Awards are given to seniors in the form of a presidential medallion at the Baccalaureate Mass so that they can wear their honor at graduation. Freshmen-Junior awards are given at the start of the following school year as a presidential pin. Each award includes a certificate of achievement and a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States.

Volunteer service hours must be submitted through the Academy’s service hour program to qualify for this recognition. To ensure that awards are attained in time for senior graduation, the service hour “year” runs from May 1-April 30 each academic year. Students may begin accruing hours for the following school year as soon as May 1 of the previous academic year. Incoming freshman may begin recording hours May 1 of their 8th grade year. To qualify for the PVSA, students must be United States citizens or lawfully admitted permanent residents of the United States. Please contact the Campus Minister, Sr. Brittany, if you have any questions about the PVSA.
