Experienced and novice performers alike have found their place on the Academy's stage, flourishing under the guidance of our director, Mrs. Lucia Cardona, who brings extensive performing experience to her work here. Together with music director Warren Helms, Mrs. Cardona forms the core of our musical theater's creative team. Mr. Helms comes to Mary Help with extensive experience as a faculty member at Julliard and the Manhattan School of Music as well as an assistant conductor and pianist for the Broadway production of Show Boat.
Other consulting professionals bring with them equally impressive credentials, having worked on the Broadway productions of Wicked, Mary Poppins, On the Twentieth Century, West Side Story, A Chorus Line, and the North American tour of Les Miserables. With such incredible backing, along with professional lighting and sound crews to set the stage, students consistently bring their scripts and librettos to life!
Auditions are held each year in the Fall for the Spring Musical with rehearsals beginning shortly thereafter. Please see below for information regarding our upcoming production as well as productions from prior years.
Announcing MHC Academy's 2018 Musical...
The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.
