Students in Honors Physics have been studying the conservation of energy and its application to the design of roller coasters. Teams of students worked together to design a roller coaster with two loops, a horizontal curve, and a means of safely slowing down the riders at the end of their wild ride. They tracked the fluctuation in total energy, and its components gravitational potential energy and kinetic energy. Their marble roller coasters were tested, filmed and analyzed.
