Students in Environmental Science have studied the albedo effect and its impact on the solar radiation reflected into outer space. They were challenged to create a scale model design of a sustainable home that leaves a minimum impact on the environment. Once designs were approved, students began building scale models of their designs. Requirements included: a method to use rain water and gray water, electricity, heat and air conditioning provided by renewable forms of energy, minimal carbon footprint and composting systems to create soil for rain gardens.
