When it comes to academics, the Academy hit the ground running in September, and our pace hasn't slowed yet! Mary Helpers acquired life-saving skills to earn certification in first aid, explored the chambers and functions of the brain through cross-curricular study in Psychology and and Biology, deepened their critical and analytical reasoning skills in a seminar on Information Literacy, and diligently prepared for their permit tests with in-depth lessons on driver safety. On the personnel side, teaching staff engaged in professional learning on the topic of differentiation of instruction in our first development day of the academic year.
Since September, Mary Helpers have packed 270 Christmas care packages for impoverished children, recognized twenty-one students with Presidential Volunteer Service Awards, participated in a school-wide service project benefitting displaced youth in New York, strengthened bonds at class retreats led by Catholic missionaries, gathered for worship and adoration as members of the LIGHT Club, used their voices to protect the right to life, appointed five Eucharistic Ministers, and transformed an ordinary classroom into our new student Chapel. Introduced in the 2018-2019 academic year, the Advisory Period at Mary Help allows students to partake in interest based clubs and other campus groups during the school day. By integrating a dedicated block of time for this purpose, the Academy seeks to enrich and extend student learning by allowing opportunities for them to engage in projects, activities, and organizations that broaden their experience and perspective.
