The Academy's Visual & Performing Arts Program encompasses the areas of film, design, and studio art. Students generally begin with Elements of Art, a survey course that exposes them to art across various times periods and styles. If, after successfully completing this entry level course, students find they have an inclination toward exploring the arts in greater depth, they may choose from offerings in mixed media, computer graphics, 3D design, studio art, and portfolio development.
Budding film buffs will find themselves at home in our TV Studio where they undertake the formal study of Film Production, learning the concepts of picture composition, lighting design, audio design, editing technique, story telling, news reporting. Visual arts students have plenty of opportunity to apply the skills gained across campus, from producing the MHCA Morning Show, to filming and editing school events, and even producing original short films.
Art students have the opportunity to display their work at the Academy's annual Inspirations show, and in past years, TV Production students have garnered attention with their submissions to The Videographer Awards, The Communicator Awards, and the Ramapo College Film Fest.
Graduates have gone on to professional careers in film and media, in fact, our official Admissions video was filmed and edited by recent alumna, Cecilia Potenza, '10. Students from our Fine Arts Department have gone on to programs at prestigious and well-known schools including Savannah College of Art and Design, the University of the Arts, and the School of Visual Arts.
