Swimming

Team Information: Varsity Swim is a Winter Sport at MHC Academy. We swim at the Boys & Girls Club of Paterson. Swim tryouts are held in November and the season runs through early February.

2023-2024 Season Summary:

This year’s Varsity Swim program consisted of 2 Seniors, 5 Juniors, 1 Sophomore and 6 Freshmen. Our swim team competed in 12 meets, two independent with our brother school Don Bosco Prep, 8 conference meets, the Passaic County Swim Championships Meet and the NJIC Swim Championships Meet. Our swimmers racked up 31 1st place race finishes and 42 2nd place race finishes. Some of our top swimmers’ stats include Senior, Kelly Hinnigan, with five 1st place finishes and three 2nd place finishes (6-IM, 2-BACK), Juniors, Madison Oh, with five 1st place finishes and one 2nd place finish (4-50FREE, 1-200Free), Yuumi Matsuda with one 1st place finish and 6 second place finishes (4-BREAST, 2-FLY, 1-FREE) & Lesley Leiva with one 1st place finish and four 2nd place finishes (100 FREE), and Freshmen, Vivian Li with eight 1st place finishes (5-FLY, 3-Back), Kayla Perrone with two 1st place finish and seven 2nd place finishes (200 FREE, 50 FREE) and Emma Oliveira with one 1st place finish (100 FREE). Our relay teams also had seven 1st place finishes and sixteen 2nd place finishes.

We had 4 varsity swimmers compete in the Passaic County Champions Tournament on Saturday, January 20th.

The Varsity Team competed in the NJIC Swim Championships on Saturday, February 3rd at Lyndhurst HS. The team finished 7th overall in the girls team division, and two individuals swimmers medaled: Vivian Li (‘27) finished 3rd overall in the 100 yard butterfly and Kayla Perrone (‘27) finished 5th overall in the 500 yard freestyle.

2022-2023 Season Recap: This was the 4th season for our varsity swim team. As our program grows so do our successes in the pool. We had several 1st place finishes by our relay teams, including the 200 Freestyle Relays and 200 Medley Relays.

Relay teams included senior Nora Maloney (‘23), junior Kelly Hinnigan (‘24), sophomore Yuumi Matsuda (‘25), sophomore Madison Oh (‘25) and freshman Angela Schembri (‘26).

Our Varsity Swim Team also had some of our swimmers enter into the Passaic County Swim Championships Tournament on Saturday, January 21st, at PCTI.

2021-2022 Season Recap: This was the 3rd season with our Swim Team, and we were very excited to get back in the pool this winter after not being able to swim in the 2020-2021 season. This years Varsity Swim team consisted of 2 seniors, 2 juniors, 3 sophomores and 7 freshmen. We were very excited to join our brother school, Don Bosco Prep’s Varsity Swim Team, to compete at three meets this season.

2019-2020 Season Recap: Second season of swim at MHC. We are excited to see our program grow and becoming more competitive each year.

We had two seniors on the team this year, Carolina Herrera (Captain) and Jazmin Mora-Amaya.
